Laser coding and marking solutions for plastics

Versatile options for optimal marking

The composition of the plastic compound and the intended use of the product determine the requirements for plastic coding and marking systems. With our fiber laser andCO2 Laser marking systems, we offer customizable solutions for economical and reliable marking.

Injection-molded parts, extruded plastics, rigid plastics

MARKING PLASTIC SURFACES BY LASER

Hard or porous, absorbent or non-absorbent surface - these properties and the question of the subsequent use of a plastic article determine which coding and marking technologies are suitable for marking the plastic. Contact-free direct marking with fiber laser systems, for example, is ideal for permanently marking injection-moulded and moulded parts for industry.CO2 laser markers achieve very good results on extruded plastics such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and on thin plastic bags. With laser marking, the coding is produced either by a color change, foaming, engraving or material removal - depending on the properties of the plastic and the marking requirements.

What is important when it comes to laser coding and marking solutions for plastics?

  • Adaptation to the properties of the respective type of plastic
  • Reliable work under industrial production conditions
  • Permanently durable, clearly readable markings, even on difficult surfaces
  • Fast, simple and economical coding and marking technologies
  • Suitability for serialization and Track & Trace

Perfectly coordinated: Compound and marking system
Forgery-proof marking of plastics

In many industries, components made of engineering plastics have to be marked permanently, individually and with high contrast. Fiber laser systems, in which the compound and coding and marking system are perfectly matched, are an excellent solution for this. This is possible if the granulate is already provided with laser-sensitive additives during compounding. These ensure a color change in the material during laser marking and thus forgery-proof direct marking. Fiber lasers are also well suited for components with complex surface geometries, as they also mark indentations and grooves without any problems. We have developed a special solution with laser-sensitive additives for silicone, a plastic that is difficult to mark.

AUTOMATED AND INTEGRATED LASER CODING AND MARKING SYSTEMS FOR PLASTIC SURFACES

Industrial laser coding and marking solutions are used throughout the plastics processing industry. Many different components and products are marked, including packaging materials such as foils, bags and rigid plastic packaging, construction materials such as pipes and profiles, and all types of molded parts. As integrated systems, our coding and marking systems are optimally adapted to the respective marking requirements and thus support the quality standards in the plastics industry.

Application examples for plastic marking

  • Component marking for traceability
  • Marking of plastic pipes with company logos
  • Application of position and location markings
  • Marking of plastic profiles using aCO2 Laser
  • Direct marking of components using a fiber laser (color change)

GOOD TO KNOW
Silicone
Marking via laser-sensitive additives

Ink adheres very poorly to silicone surfaces. This is why we have developed an optimized laser marking process for the permanent marking of silicone together with our partner Merck. During silicone production, a laser-sensitive additive is mixed into the base material. The optimized energy input of the fiber laser then causes a permanent, forgery-proof color change during marking in reaction with the additive.
