How does a fiber laser work?
REA LASER FL for industrial laser marking

The REA LASER FL Fiber Laser is ideal for use in industry. As it has a very compact design and is equipped with a freely rotatable print head, it can be easily integrated into production plants or manufacturing plants. The very high efficiency and the very large fiber surface make fiber laser marking an extremely economical marking process with low energy consumption. In addition, fiber lasers are virtually maintenance-free and have a very long service life.

With the intense laser beam and an innovative, particularly compact focusing lens, the REA LASER Fiber Laser FL marks products with extremely small texts, codes and logos as well as with markings in high resolution. Fiber laser marking is permanent and ideal for harder metals such as stainless steel and titanium as well as for plastics and thin foils. Marking is even possible on oily, corroded surfaces or surfaces heated to over 1000°C without any problems.

The REA LASER FL Fiber Laser is a solid-state laser. Laser light from a diode laser is guided over a very long distance through an optical glass fiber and amplified. This produces a very intense laser beam with very high beam quality. A pulsed fiber laser with a pulse duration of 100 nanoseconds is usually used for fiber laser marking.

  1. Engraving and tempering of metals: The REA LASER FL is ideal for engraving and tempering metals. Precise laser processing enables permanent and detailed markings, such as logos, serial numbers or QR codes, to be applied to metal surfaces. Tempering creates a color change through heating without removing the material.

  2. Permanent marking of plastics by laser with color change: The laser can permanently mark plastics with especially laser-sensitive additives. The interaction of the laser with these additives produces a color change that ensures clear and durable marking without compromising the integrity of the material.

  3. Color marking of untreated plastics and plastics with additives: In addition to processing especially treated plastics, the REA LASER FL can also color mark untreated plastics. The flexibility in handling different materials enables a wide range of applications in the plastics industry.

  4. Day and night design: For the automotive industry and other industries that require day and night designs, the REA LASER FL offers precise markings that are clearly visible in different lighting conditions. This is especially important for controls that have to be intuitive to use both in daylight and at night.

  5. Laser transfer ribbon and coated substrates: The laser is ideal for working with laser transfer ribbons and coated substrates. This capability makes it possible to create high-precision, high-contrast markings on already coated materials, which is a great advantage in the electronics and packaging industries.

Laser unit

The REA LASER FL is a diode-excited, air-cooled, pulsed fiber laser with an integrated pilot laser and is available in three power variants: 20 W, 30 W and 50 W to meet different application requirements. With a pulse energy of an impressive 1 mJ, the REA LASER FL can mark precisely and cleanly, while the optimum pulse frequency can be flexibly selected between 20 kHz, 30 kHz and 50 kHz. In addition, the system offers a variable pulse frequency between 2 kHz and 200 kHz, allowing a high degree of adaptability to different marking requirements.

The laser unit operates with a pulse length of 100 ns and a wavelength of 1064 nm, making it ideal for use in various industrial applications. The beam quality, measured at M² - 2.0, is optimized for marking applications and ensures sharp and precise results.

The REA LASER FL is equipped with various focusing lenses that allow the product distance and marking field to be customized. Available are

  • FL 100: product distance of 98 mm and a marking field of 65 x 65 mm,
  • FL160: product distance of 176 mm and a marking field of 110 x 110 mm,
  • FL 255: product distance of 292 mm and a marking field of 180 x 180 mm.
Operator terminal

The REA LASER FL operating terminal has a high resolution 5.7 inch graphic display and six LEDs for direct status display. It is operated intuitively via a keypad and a rotary pushbutton with touch function. Unicode-based text input and freely selectable languages ensure maximum flexibility. With compact dimensions of 302 x 230 x 66 mm and a weight of 2.7 kg, the device is easy to integrate and easy to handle.

Controller

The REA LASER FL controller is a state-of-the-art control unit that enables precise and reliable control of laser systems. It offers flexible communication via Ethernet and USB, digital I/Os, safety functions and accessories such as suction units, shaft encoders and product sensors. The device is designed for operation in a temperature range of 5-40 °C and a humidity of 5-85 %. Ideal for demanding industrial applications.
