Inkjet marking of metal and steel parts
Whether hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel, aluminum plates or wire ropes: The production and processing of metal often involves extreme environmental conditions. That's why coding and marking systems also have to be able to withstand a lot. Our special developments for ink and color marking of metal and steel surfaces expand the application possibilities of marking technology.
Direct marking for anti-counterfeiting
DURABLE INKJET MARKING OF METAL AND STEEL SURFACES
Blanks, semi-finished products and components made of metal and steel require extremely abrasion-resistant, weather-resistant and permanently durable markings to protect against counterfeiting and ensure complete traceability across the entire supply chain. On difficult surfaces such as rough and uneven, oily, smooth, rusty or scaled surfaces and on very hard materials, this can be achieved with highly specialized inkjet coding and marking systems. For example, we recommend multi-colored wet-on-wet printing as a label replacement for extremely smooth metal surfaces.
What is important for inkjet coding and marking solutions?
- Highly durable direct markings, even when stored outdoors
- High resistance of the marking, even under chemical and mechanical stress
- Easy integration into production lines (inline marking)
- Reliable work under harsh environmental conditions
- Fast, simple and economical coding and marking technologies
Metal and steel can be marked with particular precision using spray mark technolgies. A nozzle system prints paints and varnishes on the surfaces point by point. Even areas that are difficult to access can be reached without any problems. Spray mark technolgies can also be used on very hot surfaces up to 1000 degrees Celsius. The nozzle systems are also suitable for applying other substances such as soaps, coolants or cutting agents or for sealing metal surfaces with protective coatings.
We also offer the metalworking industry innovative applications for our inkjet printing systems. Inkjet Printers are used to apply other substances instead of ink. For example, the cartridges of our REA JET HR thermal inkjet system can be filled with oil-free lubricants in the HR LUBE version. This simplifies the preparation of metals for stamping and forming applications.
Industrial inkjet coding and marking solutions are used throughout the metal and steel industry. Many different semi-finished products and products are marked. Examples include steel coils, plates, pipes, profiles and ropes. As integrated systems, our coding and marking solutions are optimally adapted to the respective marking requirements and thus support the quality standards in the metalworking industry.
Application examples for metal and steel marking

Solvent-based special inks are used to ensure that texts and codes adhere well to non-absorbent metal substrates when marking with continuous inkjet printing systems. Inks for printing on greasy surfaces, white pigmented inks for dark steel and particularly fast-drying and chemical or heat-resistant inks are also available.
Innovative wet-on-wet printing is a very good substitute for labels when marking metal and steel. This multi-colored technology allows smooth, metallic substrates to be marked directly inline and razor-sharp. The logistics and warehousing required for labeling are eliminated, as is the dangerous risk of a label peeling off.
