Inkjet coding and marking solutions for foils
Depending on the production process, packaging foils are marked before or after packaging. Whether empty or full, the markings have to be reliable and clearly readable for both man and machine. With our inkjet printers, we have a suitable solution for every industry and type of film.
Inkjet systems for laminated films and mono-material films
MARKING PACKAGING FOILS INDIVIDUALLY
Like plastics in general, many plastic films are also suitable for marking with inkjet printers. For example, special inkjet systems mark uneven plastic packaging made of foil, such as filled bags and pouches, in a contact-free and high-contrast manner. In addition, inkjet solutions can also print logos, texts and product codes inline on unfilled plastic films, for example for flow wrapping. We offer systems for laminated films, coated films and non-absorbent films as well as for polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) foils.
Composite or multilayer films are challenging to mark, as material-specific surface phenomena and electrostatic properties have to be taken into account to ensure optimal marking. PE foils also have special requirements when it comes to marking, as their surface repels ink. This is why we have developed inks that especially adhere perfectly to PE foils. We also have inks in different colors in our range, including light-colored inks for clearly readable inscriptions on dark foils.
What is important when it comes to inkjet coding and marking solutions for packaging foils?
- Tailored to the properties of the respective type of plastic
- Reliable work under industrial production conditions
- Permanently durable, clearly readable markings, even on difficult surfaces
- Fast, simple and economical coding and marking technologies
- Suitability for serialization and Track & Trace
Industrial inkjet coding and marking solutions are used for many foils and foil packaging in various industries. Foils made from a wide variety of materials are marked. Examples include food packaging made from food-safe PE film, stretchable and transparent PVC films, bioplastic films, polymer films, multilayer films as well as recyclable PE and PP films and other monolaminates and monomaterial films. Our integrated coding and marking systems are optimally adapted to the respective labeling requirements and help the respective industries to reliably meet high quality standards.
Application examples for film labeling

- Marking of PE bags
- Marking of shrink hoods using large character inkjet printers
- Marking of laminate film
- Continuous film marking using a high resolution inkjet printer
- Printing of tubular bag packaging using a high resolution inkjet printer
Get an idea of the different markings and markings on foils and foil packaging. Our innovative inkjet marking solutions contribute to the quality assurance and traceability of packaged food and non-food items.
Multilayer films or composite films usually consist of two to six layers of different materials. These can be different types of plastic, but also aluminum, copper, paper or textile materials. These foils are often used for food packaging and are particularly tear-resistant, temperature-resistant or protect against UV rays, among other things. Due to their material-specific surface properties, coding and marking solutions have to be precisely matched to the respective foil.
Monolaminates consist of only one type of plastic. These include, for example, polyethylene foils (PE foils) and polypropylene foils (PP foils). Monolaminates are generally easy to mark and, as single-origin plastics, are also very easy to recycle.
