If ready-to-deliver tires are to be given particularly durable markings that still convey information safely and clearly readable even after thousands of kilometers of driving, laser marking is a suitable process. It secures permanent markings, such as the QR code, which has been mandatory under EU tire labeling regulations since May 2021. This gives consumers access to the "European Product Registry for Energy Labeling" (EPREL) product database with detailed information on the respective tire.

This regulation defines the content and appearance of the EU tire label. Since May 2021, all tires have to be provided with this label. It provides information on tire parameters such as fuel efficiency, wet grip, noise development and tire performance in snow and ice. Truck tires also require a printed QR code that refers to the "European Product Registry for Energy Labeling" (EPREL) product database.
