Inkjet coding and marking solutions for metal and steel parts
The extreme environmental conditions in metal production and processing place particularly high demands on coding and marking systems. With special developments for the steel and metal industry, we are expanding the application possibilities of our ink and color marking solutions.
Direct marking on hot and smooth surfaces
PERMANENT MARKING IN STEEL AND METAL PROCESSING
Markings and codes on steel and metal products or machine components have to be particularly abrasion-resistant and permanently durable in order to ensure effective anti-counterfeiting and complete traceability throughout the entire supply chain. To achieve this on often rough, uneven, smooth, greasy surfaces and very hard metals, highly specialized inkjet coding and marking systems are used. Multi-colored wet-on-wet printing is a special inkjet technology and is particularly suitable as a label replacement for very smooth metallic surfaces.
What is important for inkjet coding and marking solutions?
- Very durable direct markings, even when stored outdoors
- High resistance of the marking, even under chemical and mechanical stress
- Easy integration into production lines (inline marking)
- Reliable work under harsh environmental conditions
- Fast, simple and economical coding and marking technologies
Spray mark technolgie solutions deliver particularly precise results. They use a nozzle system to print paints and varnishes point by point, even in areas that are difficult to access, and are suitable for coding metal surfaces at temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius. The spray mark technolgie systems are also real all-rounders. Their nozzles can be used to apply soaps, coolants and cutting agents or seal protective coatings.
There are also innovative applications for inkjet printing systems in the metalworking industry. For this purpose, the printer cartridges are not filled with ink, but with other substances to be applied. One example is our REA JET HR thermal inkjet system, which prints oil-free lubricants in the HR LUBE version, thus simplifying the preparation of metals for stamping and forming applications.
Industrial coding and marking solutions are used throughout the metal and steel industry. Many different semi-finished products and products are marked. Examples include steel coils, plates, pipes, profiles and ropes. As integrated systems, our coding and marking solutions are optimally adapted to the respective marking requirements and thus support the quality standards in the metalworking industry.
Application examples for metal and steel marking
- Steel tube marking with large character or spray mark technolgie systems
- Alphanumeric marking of steel and aluminum plates of different sizes and plate thicknesses
- Color coding of wire ropes
- Direct marking of semi-finished steel products at over 1000 degrees Celsius
- Hot marking with paints and varnishes
- Edge, line and dot marking

Solvent-based special inks are used to ensure that texts and codes adhere well to non-absorbent metal substrates when marking with continuous inkjet printing systems. Inks for printing on greasy surfaces, white pigmented inks for dark steel and particularly fast-drying and chemical or heat-resistant inks are also available.
Innovative wet-on-wet printing is a very good substitute for labels when marking metal and steel. This multi-colored technology allows smooth, metallic substrates to be marked directly inline and razor-sharp. The logistics and warehousing required for labeling are eliminated, as is the dangerous risk of a label peeling off.
