Marking of primary and secondary packaging
EFFICIENT LASER MARKING IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY
There are many legal and normative requirements for the marking of food packaging. For example, they have to include barcodes, 2D Codes, batch numbers, batch labels, ingredient lists, nutritional and allergen information and the best before date (BBD). The precise requirements for food labeling in the EU are set out in the Food Information Regulation (FIR / EU No. 1169/2011). These binding and clear requirements ensure a high level of consumer safety, as consumers can obtain uniform information about the origin of food and its ingredients throughout the EU. Laser marking systems are common solutions for marking food packaging such as foils, plastic containers, cans, screw-top jar lids and cardboard packaging.
What is important with laser coding and marking solutions?
- Reliable operation in industrial food production
- Simple integration into filling systems
- Legal requirements in accordance with the Food Information Regulation (LMIV), EU 1935/2004/EC, BfR, FDA, LKV
- 1D and 2D Codes (DataMatrix codes, 2D checkout codes) in high print resolution
For hygienic reasons, most food is packaged and the packaging is marked. However, direct printing, or natural branding, is also an option for some foods. The classic example of this is eggs, which are usually printed with a standardized producer code using an inkjet process. For fruit and vegetables with a hard, thick skin as well as bread and rolls, laser printing is also very suitable for direct marking with a manufacturer's logo, proof of origin or checkout code. Direct laser marking is completely safe for consumers. For manufacturers, it is a sustainable, consumable-free and packaging-saving solution.
Industrial laser coding and marking solutions are used throughout the food industry. A wide variety of food packaging or foodstuffs are marked directly with codes and markings.
