Inkjet coding and marking solutions for plastics
Smooth or porous, rigid or flexible: plastic surfaces can be very different. That's why coding and marking systems have to be perfectly matched to the respective properties. With our inkjet markers, we offer a tailor-made solution for every type of plastic.
Matching inkjet systems to plastic properties
MARKING PLASTIC SURFACES INDIVIDUALLY
Which coding and marking technologies are best suited to marking and labeling a plastic depends not only on the properties of the plastic compound, but also on how and where the plastic product will be used. Inkjet printers are in many cases a very good solution for marking plastic. One example is the EU plant passport on plant pots. Inkjet systems are suitable for very hard, smooth, painted and non-absorbent plastics as well as for absorbent plastic surfaces. Products made of polyethylene (PE) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are challenging to mark as their surfaces repel ink. For this reason, we have developed special inks that also adhere perfectly to these surfaces.
What is important when it comes to inkjet coding and marking solutions for plastics?
- Matching the properties of the respective type of plastic
- Reliable work under industrial production conditions
- Permanently durable, clearly readable markings, even on difficult surfaces
- Fast, simple and economical coding and marking technologies
- Suitability for serialization and Track & Trace
Industrial inkjet coding and marking solutions are used throughout the plastics processing industry. Many different components and products are marked. Examples include packaging materials such as foils, bags and rigid plastic packaging, building materials such as pipes and profiles, and all types of molded parts. Our integrated coding and marking systems are optimally adapted to the respective marking requirements and help the plastics industry to reliably meet its high quality standards.
Application examples for plastic marking
- Component marking for traceability
- Coding of extruded PVC profiles for windows using a large character printer
- Marking of plastic pipes with company logos
- Multi-colored dot and line marking for type differentiation
- Application of position and location markings
- Direct marking of plant pots using an Inkjet Printer
- Best-before date on tubes using a small character inkjet system

The plant passport confirms that the goods comply with the phytosanitary regulations and that their traceability is ensured in the event of a pest infestation. The passport has to contain the botanical name of the plant species, the registration number of the operator, the traceability code, the country of origin, the flag of the European Union and the imprint "Pflanzenpassport/Plant Passport" in a clearly readable and permanently unalterable manner.
