CO2 laser technology

Carbon dioxide laser

TheCO2 Laser is a coding and marking system that works with a carbon dioxide laser. By supplying energy to a gas mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2) and helium (He), light waves are produced which emerge as a laser beam and are directed onto a product via mirrors. The beam causes high temperatures on the surface, causing the material to evaporate and produce an engraving, color change or color removal. This is done contact-free, precise and fast.

How does the carbon dioxide laser (CO2 Laser) work?
How the CO2 Laser works

ACO2 Laser, or carbon dioxide laser, is a gas laser that generates infrared radiation. It is used in many areas, such as medicine and industry. The carbon dioxide laser uses a gas mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2) and helium (He) as the active medium. Laser activity begins with an electrical discharge, during which electrons in the nitrogen molecules are raised to a higher energy level. These excited nitrogen molecules collide with theCO2 molecules and transfer their energy to them. As soon as theCO2 molecules absorb enough energy, they return to a lower energy level and emit photons in the infrared range, typically at a wavelength of 10.6 micrometers.

The emitted radiation is amplified by an optical resonator consisting of two mirrors. One of the mirrors reflects the light completely, while the other is partially transparent, so that part of the light emerges as a laser beam. To keep operation sturdy, heat has to be dissipated by a cooling system.CO2 Lasers are particularly efficient and capable of generating high-energy beams that are used for cutting, surgical procedures and various industrial applications.
